Watercade Junior Royalty is a great way to build social skills, grow confidence, and  expand interests! The Watercade Jr. Royalty Program is open to girls who are currently in 3rd grade AND live in Litchfield OR attend school in Litchfield. Applications to join us for a summer as we go to fun events and meet new people are open every year from February 1st-April 1st. 

The Litchfield Junior Royalty program is for girls who:
   • Currently in 3rd grade
   • Live in Litchfield OR attend school in Litchfield

We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic and can commit to a one-year term as a Litchfield Junior Princess if crowned.

Applications for 2027/28 Royalty will be open March 1st, 2027 and due April 1st, 2027 – Orientation on April 5th, 2027.

To be considered, you must complete the following:
– Online Application – Due April 1st. *Portions of your responses will be shared with the public and the judges.
– Candidate Contract – Signed at Candidate Orientation on April 6th.
– Sponsor Contract and Fee – Signed contract and fee must be turned in at Candidate Orientation on April 5th.

Each candidate is responsible to obtain a sponsorship from any local business.
– The Junior Candidate Sponsor fee is $200.
– This money will help cover the cost of advertising, your candidate sash, t-shirts, and other costs related to the Junior Royalty Coronation.
– In return, your sponsor will be mentioned each time you are at a Watercade function, and your sponsor’s name will be included on your sash and the Watercade poster.
– If crowned, your sponsor will pay an additional $300.

Junior Candidate commitment is approximately once a week in June and Watercade weekend (July 9-12).
– A complete list of activities will be provided as soon as the Royalty Committee has it available.
– Activities may include: Music in the Park, radio interview, volunteering in the community, coronation rehearsal, and candidate bonding. If crowned, the Junior Princess commitment is approximately 20-25 events throughout the year.
A parent/guardian is required to attend all events with their daughter.

Candidate Attire:
– Candidates attire consists of a blue candidate t-shirt, dark denim bottoms, clean shoes in good condition, and your candidate sash. Candidate attire will be required for most events.
– 2 blue candidate t-shirts and your candidate sash will be provided.
– Dark denim buttons should be of appropriate length and free from holes/frays. Bottoms may include shorts, skirts, capris, or pants.
– Tennis shoes or sandals should be clean and in good condition.
Additional attire you will need:
A nice dress with at least one strap to be worn for Junior Coronation and the Watercade parade.
– Dresses should be at least knee-length. You can decide how fancy you’d like to be.
– Only one dress is needed and can be worn for both events.

Junior Royalty Candidates will ride together on one float during the Watercade Parade under the supervision of the Watercade Royalty Committee.
– Candidates will each have signs with their name and sponsor information displayed during the parade.

Several judges from outside of Litchfield are hired to assess each candidate in several areas including: natural inner beauty, communication, posture, personality, and personal interviews.
   • There will be informal interviews conducted for each Junior Candidate.
   • Final judging and decisions happen at the Junior Coronation.

– At all times you must act responsibly and in good taste while representing the city of Litchfield.
– You may not wear your candidate sash when not accompanied by a member of the Watercade Board or Royalty Committee.
– Candidates are expected to fully participate in the candidate process whether she has entered candidacy with the intention of being considered for a crown/title or has entered simply to have the experience with no intentions of being considered for a crown/title.

Commitment

Your reign as a Jr. Royal Ambassador lasts for one year. You will participate in up to 30 parades/events in surrounding communities. Over half of these events occur in June, July, or August. You will volunteer, on average, twice a month within our community. This may include visiting schools and nursing homes, Story Hour at the library, Santa House, bell ringing, and helping at the food shelf.

Each junior ambassador will receive a crown and a keepsake necklace. A bracelet will be awarded to the Best Buddy (the Jr. Miss Congeniality).

Scholarship

The Watercade Board awards each junior ambassador up to a $150 Litchfield Community Education scholarship at the end of her reign.

Sponsorship is a HUGE part of Litchfield’s Watercade Royalty Program; both the Senior Royalty (Miss Litchfield & Princesses) and Junior Princess programs.  This program relies almost entirely on donations and sponsorships just like yours.  What better way to represent and boast about our community than to be supported and sponsored by it while visiting other towns and festivals!? These donations will go directly towards Royalty Float updates/maintenance,  Royal Ball (banquet/dance for visiting royalty following our parade), Royalty Coronation, Royalty Scholarships, travel expenses to neighboring communities for their annual celebrations, crowns, sashes, jewelry, and wardrobe allowances.
